Biking through a scenic pine forest trail

If there’s one thing that defines life in Sunriver, it’s the bike paths. With over 33 miles of paved pathways winding through ponderosa pine forests, along the Deschutes River, and past every community amenity you can imagine, biking isn’t just recreation here — it’s a way of life.

As locals who bike these paths almost daily, we can tell you that the Sunriver pathway system is truly one of a kind. The paths are wide, smooth, and completely separated from vehicle traffic, making them safe for everyone from toddlers on training wheels to seasoned road cyclists. Golf carts share the paths too, adding to the laid-back resort vibe.

The Must-Ride Routes

The main loop around the community is about 9 miles and passes through every neighborhood, the Village shopping area, the Great Hall, and multiple river access points. For a longer adventure, the path extends south toward the Benham Falls trailhead, connecting you to the Deschutes National Forest trail system. One of our favorite rides is the stretch from the Village down to the Sunriver Nature Center — it winds through a gorgeous old-growth section of forest that feels worlds away from everything.

Tips from the Trail

Bike rentals are available at several spots in the Village and at Sunriver Resort. If you’re moving here, invest in a good cruiser with a basket — you’ll use it more than your car. Keep right, pass left, and watch for deer. They’re beautiful, but they don’t follow path etiquette. The speed limit on paths is 15 mph, and the community takes it seriously.

Whether you’re commuting to the pool, heading to dinner at the Village, or just exploring on a lazy Sunday, biking in Sunriver never gets old. It’s one of the first things Chance and I fell in love with when we started working in this community.

Sunriver Sports and Village Bike & Ski both rent cruisers, mountain bikes, e-bikes, trailers, and tag-alongs. Book ahead in peak summer weeks — inventory moves fast.
